BIOGRAPHY

Booty Luv is a British dance music group formed in June 2006 via the Hed Kandi label. It is fronted by two R&B vocalists, Cherise Roberts, 20, and Nadia Shepherd, 23, both of whom were in the original line-up of the hip-hop band Big Brovaz. Booty Luv's 'breakthrough' came when their debut single stormed the charts, spending a lengthy 17 weeks in the chart before dropping out of the Top 40.

Big Brovaz

Cherise, 25 and Nadia,27 both began their career in the R'n'B group Big Brovaz who had considerable success following their launch in 2002. After scoring top five hits with songs such as 'Favourite Things' and 'Nu Flow', Big Brovaz received rave reviews from fans and critics for their 'unique' style, and received comparisons with other groups such as Outkast and solo artists such as Eminem, Nelly and Jamelia. After a lengthy hiatus following one members' drug addiction being revealed, Big Brovaz re-enstated their career in 2004 with new single 'Your's Fatally'. Expectations were high following their previous string of top ten hits, although the single disappointingly stalled at #15 in the UK Top 40 and third female member Dionne left the band to start a new life in Australia. Subsequently, the band were dropped by their record label. This resulted in a three year gap before they finally released a second studio album. In January 2007, new album 'Re-Entry' was released, although it was a commercial disaster, charting way outside the UK Top 40 and lead single 'Big Bro Thang' peaking at #171 in the UK Singles Chart due to little or no airplay. This was down to the fact that promotion for the album and singles was very limited, with 'Big Bro Thang' not even having any physical release.

Big Bro Thang was later featured on the BBC's Eurovision 'Making Your Mind Up', after the group decided to try their hand at the Eurovision 2007 in Finland. Despite being the favourites to win, and receiving good comments from judges John Barrowman and Mel Giedroyc, Big Brovaz failed to make it to the final two, losing out to pop foursome Scooch (who later went on to win) and French opera singer, Cyndi. Many have accused the BBC of fixing the votes but the BBC have denied this.

Cherise: 'Look Inside'

In 2000, some early demo tracks for Big Brovaz were compiled on an unofficial album entitled 'Big Brovaz - Watching You'. A track from the album which featured West London R&B singer Cherise was picked up by the organiser of the annual MOBO Awards and she was offered a chance to compete in the annual MOBO Unsigned talent competition, walking away with first prize. Cherise was signed and later released her own solo album, entitled 'Look Inside', spawning one single, "2nd Best", and winning a MOBO Award.

The formation of Booty Luv

Whilst recording material for Big Brovaz' second studio album, Cherise and Nadia were asked by the record label Hed Kandi to record a cover of the Tweet song "Boogie 2nite", which had been a club hit in 2002, although Tweet was cited as 'too busy' to release the song as an actual single, and so five years later Cherise and Nadia were asked to record and promote a new version of the song. Originally, 'Boogie 2nite' was dubbed as just a promotional track for the record label 'Hed Kandi', although sixth months later in December, however, the girls' version of the song was chosen to be released as a full-scale single following rave reviews with Club DJs on the dance scene.

The name 'Booty Luv' was chosen as the band name, and it was decided that the original dance remix by Seamus Haji would be chosen for the song's download and physical releases, while the video was chosen to feature the remix by the group DB Boulevard. The tracks were similar, although Haji's remix had a more prominent back beat, whilst DB Boulevard's being lighter and sharper. Expectant of some success, the song unexpectedly was a huge hit, holding #1 positions on the 3 Download Chart, iTunes Top 100 and TMF Hitlist UK before eventually peaking at #2 in the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart in its third week of release. In the UK, it was beaten narrowly to the top spot by Take That's hugely-popular comeback single 'Patience', and if X Factor winner Leona Lewis had not released her debut single 'A Moment Like This' shortly after on December 24, 'Boogie 2nite' may have eventually hit the top spot. It did, however, hold a position in the UK Top forty for a very respectable seventeen weeks, fifteen of which were inside the UK Top 20.

In May 2007, once Cherise and Nadia had been offered a full-length recording contract with Hed Kandi following their unpredicted success, the girls' second single "Shine", a cover of the Luther Vandross song, was released on the 14 May. It was well received by radio and was added to the A-list on BBC Radio 1 and peaked at number seventeen on the UK airplay chart. The single charted fairly well, débuting at #25 in the UK, based on download sales alone, before eventually peaking at #10 following its physical release. It stayed within the UK Top 10 for 2 weeks, and managed to hold a position in the UK Top 15 for just over a month. New single 'Don't Mess With My Man', (a cover of a Lucy Pearl song) was released on the 10th September which sat at #31 in the UK charts on downloads alone and one week later made #11 on physical release, just outside the top ten. This will be followed shortly by their debut album 'Boogie 2nite', which is due for release one week later.

The Future

Despite Booty Luv originally being a 'one-off project', simply to promote the record label Hed Kandi, the success of 'Boogie 2nite' all over Europe prompted Hed Kandi and sister label Ministry of Sound to offer the girls a full-scale recording contract, which would feature follow up singles and an album. After the new material from Big Brovaz failed to chart in the UK, Nadia and Cherise decided to continue with the project and record a full-scale album which is due for release on September 17th 2007 and which will include the singles 'Boogie 2nite', 'Shine' and 'Don't Mess With My Man'. Their début album is said to comprise dance-style covers of RnB, Soul and Hip-Hop songs. Booty Luv, at present, have had their contract extended on creating one album and five singles. Their fourth single is rumoured to be Some Kinda Rush which has already had rave reviews from fans and journalist Peter Robinson.
